Movies- Heartbreakers
Here's a bunch of movies that are worth taking the time to watch. (If you haven't you should be embarrassed and ashamed and go to the video store immediately.) Especially for the blues or lonely hearts this Valentines day.
1. The virgin suicides
Sofia Coppola (swoon), makes the beautiful film adaption of Jeffrey Eugendies book. It tells the story of a group of young boys living in American in the '70s whose lives are anchored by their obsession with the beautiful Lisbon sisters. The girls live under the strict rules of their Christian parents. After the suicide attempt by the youngest daughter and Lux's rebellious ways, they spiral into a detached world of their own, the only contact being made with the boys.
"So much has been said about the girls over the years. But we have never found an answer. It didn't matter in the end how old they had been, or that they were girls... but only that we had loved them... and that they hadn't heard us calling... still do not hear us calling them from out of those rooms... where they went to be alone for all time... and where we will never find the pieces to put them back together"
2. Candy
The 2006 Australia film (staring the very handsome Heath Ledger) 'Candy' tells the tale of two lovers who are as hooked on each other as they are Heroin. Their relationship that began on innocent delights leads to a fatal path where any attachments and previous wishes are insignificant in their addiction.
"Once upon a time, there was a Candy and Dan... Things were very hot that year... All the wax was melting on the trees... He would climb balconies, climb everywhere. Do anything for her... Oh Danny boy. Thousands of birds. The tiniest birds adorned her hair... Everything was golden... One night the bed caught fire... He was handsome, and a very good criminal... We lived on sunlight and chocolate bars... It was the afternoon of extravagant delight... Danny, the Daredevil... Candy went missing... The day's last rays of sunshine cruise like sharks..."I wanna try it your way this time!" You came into my life really fast, and I liked it. We squelched in the mud of our joy. I was wet thighed with the surrender... Then there was a gap in things... And the whole earth tilted... This is the business. This is what we're after. With you inside me... Comes the hatch of death..."
3. Blue Valentine
Dean and Cindy meet at a relatively young age, draw together immediately they continue to see each other when Cindy finds she is pregnant to her ex boyfriend. Thrown into marriage, Dean and Cindy raise their daughter Frankie, and try to hold the love they once had together. This beautiful film cross-cuts through time to show the beginning and end of their relationship.
" I feel like men are more romantic than women. When we get married we marry, like, one girl, 'cause we're resistant the whole way until we meet one girl and we think I'd be an idiot if I didn't marry this girl she's so great. But it seems like girls get to a place where they just kinda pick the best option... 'Oh he's got a good job.' I mean they spend their whole life looking for Prince Charming and then they marry the guy who's got a good job and is gonna stick around."

Writing
I'm writing a bunch of silly stories and drawing a bunch of pictures to make a book for a friend, hopefully by valentines day.

Once there was a girl who kept rocks in her pockets and flowers behind her ears. She had a pet rabbit, but on November 5th it disappeared. The rocks got heavier and the flowers began to wilt. Filled with questions and guilt, she threw herself off the tree house her father had built.
Getting older getting slower
Getting older is usually seen as a bad thing. At one point all I wanted was to be an old lady with sweet weird style that wore joy division shirts and cardigans with pumpkins sewn into them and a big grey bun on the top of my head. Now I'm not so sure. There's something really great about being so young and still discovering everything.
However I still vow to look like one of these gals when I'm older.

Girl Crush - Emily Browning
It's hard not to fall in love with the Australian born beauty, Emily Browning.
In 2004 she stared as Violet in the mysterious and whimsical 'Series of unfortunate events', a admirably smart and caring character who struggles to escape the grasps of an evil uncle when her mother and father die, leaving herself and her two siblings orphans. Finally, Emily's performance in the independent film "sleeping beauty' is outstanding. The film reminds me of the whimsical and illusive feeling of 'The Virgin Suicides'. It's both beautiful and haunting. A must see for everyone.
