I've been reading Elizabeth Goodman's biography on Chan Marshall. To be honest it's left me with a lot of love for Chan Marshall, and a lot of hatred towards Elizabeth Goodman. The introduction to the book is about how hard Chan and her family fought to try and stop Goodman from writing the book, and essentially in their eyes invading her privacy and telling a story that mightn't be all that accurate. I guess If I was really respecting Chan Marshall I shouldn't of read it, however I was too curious and just spent $25 on it. Beautiful and interesting book however. If you can get past the introduction that really makes you question whether you should really be reading it, you won't regret it.

All I want is a place like this were I can draw and paint and do whatever I please.
We're studying Abbey McCulloch and my god she makes the most beautiful artworks. She's very shy and insecure which is silly because she's excellent.
A boy recently told me he didn't understand art. "Some of it's ok, but some of it's just shit". I tried to explain to him that it's just like music- there's plenty of genres, but you don't necessarily need to like all of them- but he still didn't really understand how people could literally can their own shit and claim it as art (well done, Piero Manzoni). But isn't that the case everywhere? Eminem can claim his sexist rap shit as music, doesn't mean you have to enjoy it.

Last Supper
James Reynolds documents former death row prisoners' requests for their last meal in these beautifully starck photographs. If I was on death row, I'd request a raspberry smoothie, nuggets, and a slice of cheese pizza as my last meal. What about you?
On Friday I have to travel to a christian school two hours away. They told me to make sure my skirt isn't too short, and my hair isn't out. I'll stay for six hours and listen to a speech, before leaving to head back home. The principal already wasn't sure whether to let me come to their school for the day in the first place. I wonder how religious they'll actually be, and whether their religion means less to them than it does to me.

"I just do art because I'm ugly and there's nothing else for me to do." - Andy Warhol
We've started doing portraits in art, and It's amazing to see a class full of girls do whatever they can to convince the teacher not to make them do a self portrait. The thing is they're all the sweetest, most talented and beautiful girls you'd ever meet. For a while I couldn't understand it, however, it is a really strange thing to have to look at your own face for a whole term. To dissect your features into proportions until you're left asking the question "Do I really look like that?" Honestly It's one of the worst things you could do for you confidence. Stay oblivious to how far apart your eyes are, how long your nose is in relation to your ears, and how thick your upper lip is compared to your bottom lip.

Movies- Heartbreakers
Here's a bunch of movies that are worth taking the time to watch. (If you haven't you should be embarrassed and ashamed and go to the video store immediately.) Especially for the blues or lonely hearts this Valentines day.
1. The virgin suicides
Sofia Coppola (swoon), makes the beautiful film adaption of Jeffrey Eugendies book. It tells the story of a group of young boys living in American in the '70s whose lives are anchored by their obsession with the beautiful Lisbon sisters. The girls live under the strict rules of their Christian parents. After the suicide attempt by the youngest daughter and Lux's rebellious ways, they spiral into a detached world of their own, the only contact being made with the boys.
"So much has been said about the girls over the years. But we have never found an answer. It didn't matter in the end how old they had been, or that they were girls... but only that we had loved them... and that they hadn't heard us calling... still do not hear us calling them from out of those rooms... where they went to be alone for all time... and where we will never find the pieces to put them back together"
2. Candy
The 2006 Australia film (staring the very handsome Heath Ledger) 'Candy' tells the tale of two lovers who are as hooked on each other as they are Heroin. Their relationship that began on innocent delights leads to a fatal path where any attachments and previous wishes are insignificant in their addiction.
"Once upon a time, there was a Candy and Dan... Things were very hot that year... All the wax was melting on the trees... He would climb balconies, climb everywhere. Do anything for her... Oh Danny boy. Thousands of birds. The tiniest birds adorned her hair... Everything was golden... One night the bed caught fire... He was handsome, and a very good criminal... We lived on sunlight and chocolate bars... It was the afternoon of extravagant delight... Danny, the Daredevil... Candy went missing... The day's last rays of sunshine cruise like sharks..."I wanna try it your way this time!" You came into my life really fast, and I liked it. We squelched in the mud of our joy. I was wet thighed with the surrender... Then there was a gap in things... And the whole earth tilted... This is the business. This is what we're after. With you inside me... Comes the hatch of death..."
3. Blue Valentine
Dean and Cindy meet at a relatively young age, draw together immediately they continue to see each other when Cindy finds she is pregnant to her ex boyfriend. Thrown into marriage, Dean and Cindy raise their daughter Frankie, and try to hold the love they once had together. This beautiful film cross-cuts through time to show the beginning and end of their relationship.
" I feel like men are more romantic than women. When we get married we marry, like, one girl, 'cause we're resistant the whole way until we meet one girl and we think I'd be an idiot if I didn't marry this girl she's so great. But it seems like girls get to a place where they just kinda pick the best option... 'Oh he's got a good job.' I mean they spend their whole life looking for Prince Charming and then they marry the guy who's got a good job and is gonna stick around."
